Civil Society Calls for Renewal of the UN Special Rapporteur’s Mandate

Ahead of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, 40 civil society organizations are calling for the renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Burundi.

They warn of continued enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture, and restrictions on civic space, amid widespread impunity and ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The organizations urge the Council to maintain its monitoring of the situation and call on the Burundian authorities to fully cooperate with UN human rights mechanisms.
