Tanzania: 26 organizations denounce threats against Burundian refugees
Twenty-six human rights organizations have issued a joint statement expressing deep concern over the imminent closure of the Nduta refugee camp in Tanzania and the heightened risk of forced returns of Burundian refugees.
They denounce practices that violate the principle of non-refoulement, including pressure, violence, and restrictions, and warn of the serious risks refugees face if returned to Burundi, in a pre-election context marked by ongoing human rights violations.
The organizations call on the Tanzanian authorities, UNHCR, and the international community to take urgent measures to ensure the effective protection of refugees.
